PHEVs, or Plug-in Hybrid vehicles, are becoming more popular as motorists look to reduce costs and lessen their environmental impact. While car owners have reasonably understood the servicing of traditional vehicles for decades, Hybrid vehicle servicing can be a mystery to new owners of eco-friendly models.
With Hybrids, PHEV’s and all-electric vehicles rising in popularity, there will be an increased demand for knowledgeable and reliable technicians capable of servicing these types of cars. Automotive Insight has an experienced team trained in the servicing of Hybrids PHEVs and EVs.
Automotive Insight is the best alternative for quality service and maintenance of Hybrid cars like Toyota Camry, Toyota Rav 4 and Toyota Prius
What’s different about Hybrid vehicle servicing?
There are additional checks that need to be carried out above the standard mechanical inspection levels of normal vehicles. Components specific to hybrid vehicles need to be scrutinised to the same level of attention as mechanical parts.
- Hybrid battery performance check: As batteries are essential in any standard vehicle, hybrid batteries take on extra importance as they’re used to power the car when the fuel is not in use. A performance/health check will ensure the batteries are operating properly, maintaining performance, and improving efficiency.
- Inverter coolant check: Automotive Insight technicians will check that there are no inverter coolant leaks in the vehicle. The inverter turns the battery DC power into AC power that drives the electric motor(s). Inverter coolant is required to maintain a steady temperature so that the inverter can perform optimally.
- Brake binding check: Hybrid vehicles use of regenerative braking. This is process collects kinetic energy that would be lost during braking and directs it to the hybrid/electric vehicle’s battery. When the car accelerates, this stored energy is used, rather than draining the vehicle’s original energy supply. Brake binding is when the brake pad sticks to the brake itself, which can cause the vehicle to slow down even without the brake pedal being used. Automotive Insight will always check for potential brake binding and will repair the issue.
- EV Charging point check: The charging port will be inspected for damage, and a replacement is recommended if any issues are found. It’s important that your plug-in hybrid vehicle can charge up properly and efficiently.
